Giraud Power Trimmer 308 Winchester 220V/50hz

The Giraud Tool Company has thoroughly addressed the case trimming operation.  The firm have designed and manufactured a machine capable of handling large volumes of cases accurately, with relative ease.  Now that I have had the opportunity to handle and examine the Giraud Power Trimmer in person, I had to say that the photographs do not do it justice.

The machine is more compact than you would think, with a footprint of 31 x 18 cm, allowing it to fit easily on a bench or in a cupboard.  Although solidly built, the machine is only a few kilo’s in weight so it can be easily moved.   The Giraud Tool Company has fitted quite generous power cords with UK plugs on these units so that all you have to do is take it out of the box, plug it in, turn it on, and start trimming cases.  Just looking at this machine actually motivates one to want to start trimming.

I have enjoyed the opportunity of being able to handle and use many Giraud Tool Company products.  Nothing leaves that shop unless it is perfect.

The Giraud Power Trimmer is driven by a totally enclosed fan cooled 220V 50Hz Dayton light industrial motor.  If you are not familiar with Dayton Electric Mfg. Company, they are an American firm founded in 1937, who are still building reliable industrial motors.  A cogged timing belt and pulley set positively drive the trimmer smoothly with minimal vibration.

The Giraud Power Trimmer is designed for high volume usage, with high quality ball bearings supporting both the motor and the trimmer shaft. The trimmer comes with a retained clear LEXAN chip guard.  This prevents brass shavings from being scattered all over your reloading area and makes the trimming process safer.

The Giraud Carbide blade is standard with the trimmer.  In one operation, the case is trimmed to length and left with a 15 degree inside chamfer and 45 degree outside chamfer for smooth burr free seating.  The 3 sided cutter blade life is expected to last 20,000 trims, and can be rotated to a fresh side as required.  In the unlikely event that you dull all 3 sides of the blade, it can be economically replaced.

The unit is equipped with a simple switch to turn the unit off and on.  Solid metal base to support the trimmer in both horizontal and vertical positions complete with screw mounted non-slip rubber mounting feet to prevent unnecessary marring of table tops and work surfaces.

Designed with a spring loaded case holder to prevent unintentional touching of cases with the rotating cutter blade in vertical position.

The power trimmer is available in calibres from .17 Remington through 50 BMG.

Interchangeable cutting heads available so you can set a specific calibre dimension then swap out head for another calibre with little to no adjustment.

This unit is configured to trim the 308 Winchester cartridge.  Other calibres are available via special order.  The unit can also be configured to trim bullet meplats with the addition of a carbide cutter and bullet holder.  Please enquire should you be interested in this capability.

I spoke with an F Class shooter on Stickledown, who purchased one of these machines in 2016.  At the time of this writing he says that he has just done his first blade rotation after using the machine on a regular basis for 6 years.  He said that if he continued using the machine at the same rate, he expected the blade to last 18 years.  He also commented that when he gives up shooting, he will probably be able to sell the machine on for close to what he paid for it.
