The K&M Primer Seater with depth gauge has been designed by precision shooters to allow very precise primer seating. This device incorporates a dial indicator that has two functions. Firstly, the height of the primer is accurately measured with the dial indicator and a holder built into the device. The tool is then set to zero at this dimension. The holder is then folded away and the primer is seated. During the seating operation, the dial indicator should come back to zero when the primer is seated completely. This is the point at which the primer is at the bottom of the pocket, but without any ‘crush’. K&M recommend going past zero and applying 0.001″ or 0.002″ of ‘crush’ to make sure there is good contact between the primer anvil and the bottom of the primer pocket.
This tool has been designed for shooters using high quality brass or brass that has had primer pockets re-cut so that they are of uniform depth and square to the case head.
A video demonstration of how this tool is used can be seen here.
K+M Primer Seaters use the commonly available Lee Primer Shell Holder. This tool is shipped with a Lee Auto Prime #2, which is the correct size for the 308 Winchester family of cartridges.
A basic version of this great tool, without the dial indicator is available here.
