The Lyman E-Zee Prime works with any standard shellholder and allows rapid changeover between primer sizes. Two primer trays are included, each of which incorporate their own built-in large or small primer punch assembly. Each primer tray has a built-in shut-off gate to keep primers in place during change-over. The user removes the snap-in-place lock collar and installs the correct size primer tray and the shellholder as needed. Then, the lock collar is snapped in place and the change-over is complete.
The primer trays also function as a primer flipper to properly orient primers for seating. The quality of this tool is quite good for the price. The tool feels comfortable in the hand and appears quite solidly built out of castings. The benefit of hand seating primers are that you get the ‘feel’ of when primer touches the bottom of the pocket and you quickly learn how much ‘crush’ you want your primers to have.
In addition to more consistent primer seating, you can easily feel a ‘tired’ loose primer pocket that is letting you know when it is time to retire a case. As you prime, take a felt tip and write an ‘X’ on the cases with loose pockets and discard them after the next firing.
