The Redding Big Boss II Single Stage Reloading Press is built on a very heavy frame with a 1″ diameter ram and long 3.8″ usable ram stroke allowing it to process cartridges up to 3.8″ in overall length. The Redding Reloading Press frame is offset so as to make access the the shell holder easy and comfortable. The press has a 7/8-14 threaded adapter allowing it to be used with standard dies. This adapter can be removed allowing the press to be compatible with 1-1/4-12 dies used for large cartridges like the 577 Snider or 577-450 Martini Henry.
This modernized version of the Redding Big Boss II offers a ‘Spent Primer Collection System’ allowing primers to drop through the hollow ram into a plastic tube which can be placed in a bin. The Press also features a ‘Smart Primer Arm’ that allow on press priming.
Built of American cast iron and machined to close tolerances, the Redding Reloading Press rates very highly among Single Stage Reloading Presses in terms of accuracy and low run out. The press incorporates a very heavy duty steel linkage capable of handling very high forces, making this press suitable for reforming cartridges to different calibres if necessary.
Here at the V Shop we have a Redding Reloading Press purchased in 2002, which was loaned out to a fellow shooter training for Commonwealth Games Trials. This shooter trained daily and loaded ammunition with this press. Today, The Big Boss is the go to press here at the V Shop as it has the tightest ram of any press we run, even after 20 years of solid service.
Gavin has a produced a video review for his channel ‘Ultimate Reloader’ of 14 Single Stage Presses where he compares the quality of the ammunition produced by each. If you are interested you can watch here. The Redding Big Boss II scores very highly against the other 13 presses, only edged out by presses costing much more.
