The Redding Case Neck Gauge provides a quick and easy way to sort cases by neck wall thickness and uniformity. Two mandrel sizes are supplied to allow measurement of cases from .17 calibre to .338 calibre. The case neck gauge has direct mounting holes or can be affixed to your bench with C Clamps.
Uniformity of case neck wall thickness is an indication of the quality of the cartridge case itself. Any large variation (over 0.015″) in neck wall thickness will generally indicate a similar or greater variation in the body and shoulder of the case. This variation cannot be corrected and may lead to concentricity and bullet runout problems.
Turning necks will not solve the problem as the entire case is effected. Cases with large variation should be taken out of the batch and used for other purposes.
Pilot stops for .22 and .30 calibre are included with the Redding Case Neck Gauge. Others are available to order. The case neck gauge comes complete with a large, easy to read dial indicator with 0.001″ increments.
