The Slix Ram was designed to facilitate loading the Ruger Old Army with reduced charges. The Ruger Old Army has a very large chamber as when it was first designed, performance was one of the key criteria. The 44 Magnum cartridge had been recently introduced and Ruger was going to do their best to build a full power black powder revolver for enthusiasts.
Most Old Army Enthusiasts are after accuracy and low recoiling loads. The Slix Ram is 0.340″ longer than the factory ram and can push the bullet back further to accommodate reduced charges without using a filler material. Slix suggest that the Ram is a ‘drop in’ part and just interchanges with the factory ram. Slix say that if a user has difficulty with installation, they should consult with a gunsmith or other knowledgeable person.
The Slix Ram is finished ‘in the white’ and should be looked after carefully to prevent discolouring and corrosion.
